Wooden Surfboard Workshops

Over three days, build your own wooden surfboard in our atelier near Ericeira.

You’ll be guided through each step, from raw materials to a finished board, using techniques refined over the years.

For a surfer, few experiences are more meaningful than building your own board by hand, understanding how it works, and later surfing something you created yourself.

No prior skills are needed. You leave with your board, and with the knowledge to keep exploring on your own.

You will learn about:

→ specific woodworking tools
→ surfboard design and shaping basics
→ software and templates used in design
→ wood sealing and glassing techniques

Our group workshops take place every two months, either in our atelier or elsewhere in Europe. Private workshops are also available on request.

Logistics

  • Day 1 : 13:00 - 18:00.
    Day 2 & 3 : 09:00 - 18:00

The finishing time may vary depending on the number of participants and the progress of each board.

On the first day, we’ll start after lunch (please eat before arriving). On the following two days, we’ll have lunch together.

  • For workshops outside Portugal, please check the specific workshop page for the exact location and practical details.

For workshops in Portugal, the 3-day experience takes place at the Ondanova atelier, about a 15-minute drive from Ericeira.

The workshop is quite isolated, so we recommend having a car, especially if you are coming from abroad. Outside the high season, rental prices can be very reasonable.

You can also take a bus from Lisbon to Ericeira, then continue by taxi, Uber, or Bolt to the atelier.

  • Lunch is not included. There are no restaurants or shops nearby, so we recommend bringing your own picnic. We also have a kitchen equipped with a fridge, oven and cooking plate, allowing you to store your food and prepare simple meals on-site.

We provide plenty of snacks, fruits, drinks, coffee, and tea throughout the day

  • Nearby options are limited but Ericeira and the surrounding areas offer plenty of choices, about a 10-15-minute drive away.

    Check out our Ericeira Guide.

If you need assistance finding a place to stay, feel free to contact us →.

  • Since we will be making dust and using glue, we recommend wearing comfortable work clothes and closed-toe shoes.

We provide all the tools and materials, but if you have specific preferences for protective gear (e.g., gloves, mask), feel free to bring your own. We do suggest bringing a dust mask of your choice, an FFP2 mask is perfectly suitable.

Also don’t forget your lunch for the second and third day..

  • All of our boards are fitted with US boxes for single fins and Futures fin boxes as standard, along with leash and vent plugs. Fins are not included.

For those looking for something even more crafted, we also make custom glass-on fins in marine plywood or fiberglass, available upon request at an additional cost.

  • Yes, but with some limits.

The natural grain of the wood is already a beautiful feature on its own, so we generally encourage leaving it natural or keeping decoration minimal, like a logo or a simple geometric color illustration.

You can personalize your board with a logo (maximum A4 size), which costs 50€/logo. Just send us the file beforehand or during the workshop.

For color or more elaborate artwork, pricing is available on request, and we’ll be happy to discuss your ideas during the workshop.

    • Private workshops → one-on-one or small private groups.
    • Corporate workshops → a unique hands-on team-building experience.

Contact us for details and prices.

  • If we haven’t quite managed to answer your question, it might be on our FAQ page →
